| Royel's Testimony | ||||||
| Born in Texas under the name "Roy L. Clark." As he grew up in grade school & middle school, he sang for friends and neighbors for fun. He won 2nd place at a school hootenanny in 8th grade and soon joined a local R&R band called "The Velvetones." Later, he joined " The Shade" and then "Sound Cloud." As he matured he grew fonder of country music and joined "The Uptown Countrymen" and shortly afterwards hooked up with "Southfork Band," which originated in "Dallas" when the Dallas TV series, was created. Royel and the group performed for the Dallas TV crew many times. He worked as producer/songwriter for an independent record company. In 1987, after several years in the biz, he hit the charts with an original song called "The Longer I Love You." At about the same time, Royel was stricken with throat cancer. he had reached a point where he would have to have surgery with a 50/50 chance of recovery. In January of '88' he had the surgery. In the process to remove the cancer, his right vocal cord was too infected and was ultimately destroyed. After surgery the docters said, for all practical purposes...'he would not sing again... You just don't talk much less sing with only ONE active vocal cord.' That's when Royel hit the bottom. His dreams were shattered. In 1988, he began voice therapy and speech therapy to learn how to talk again. ?Also in September of '88', his life changed..."I found Jesus Christ and accepted Him as my Lord and Savior," said Royel. His wife Ruthie and his two daughters, Hollie and Dionne, were saved too. Yes, Royel thought that his life was over but as he grew in the grace and knowledge of our Lord, his voice got stronger and his will and desire to sing got even stronger. Once he got past the hurt and blame, once he accepted that what happened to him was part of God's plan, once he started looking forward instead of backwards...then God began to reveal things to him. All of the years in the music business, for Royel, were not wasted. God said to him, "Those 22, plus, years in the music business were not wasted years; they were to train you for what I have you doing today." Royel truly has a Miracle Voice from God. Royel said that "It's not the voice that I want, but it is the voice that God wants me to have and I give Him all the praise and glory!!" Today Royel is an accomplished producer/singer/songwriter/publisher and promoter for the Christian music industry! He has written over 1,000 songs and produced projects for more than 100 singers and groups. Royel has hosted a number of radio shows across north Texas including The Texas Gospel Jubilee on KSKY 660AM. He also produced and hosted the Songwriter's Corner television show for 16 years in the Dallas area. On October 21st, 2000, after 30 years, my sweet Ruthie went on home to be with Jesus. In spite of her failing health, she was always an encouragement to others and she was always there for me and our girls. God knows our hearts and He knows just what we need. In May of 2002 God brought a sweet and wonderful woman into my life. Her name is Elaine. She knew that God had a plan for her life. After a year of getting to know one another, love took control and I asked her to marry me. In May ofr 2003, Elaine became my wife and I know that God had given me a second chance at love, life and marriage. THANK YOU JESUS!! AMEN! |
